Having gained a degree in Forestry from Bangor University and following a career spanning 10 years in the private forestry sector, Joe Fielding established Red Rock Forestry as a sole trader in 1997. The objective was to provide a full range of forestry management and consultancy services to private landowners, government, and public institutions – offering a personal approach to help navigate the complex legislation surrounding this sector. Softwood timber harvesting in Wales was Joe’s focus initially, but after a few years of honing his knowledge adding to his skills, this developed into tree planting, (large and small scale), timber marketing, woodland management, and grant applications. Informal advice and wisdom were free of charge!

As the business grew, Joe recruited foresters to accommodate the demand for his services, and in 2019 Red Rock Forestry became a Limited Company.

Sadly, in 2021, Joe passed away after a short, but tenacious battle with cancer. However, the company carries on in the capable hands of his son Jude, who followed in his father’s footsteps and became a forester in 2015, having graduated top of his class from Aberdeen and winning Tilhill’s Top Forestry Graduate award.

Head office is in Chester along with a satellite office near Bristol and a team of foresters and contractors throughout the country providing national coverage. Red Rock Forestry continues to provide expert advice and management of both commercial and amenity woodland and welcomes any new enquiries.

Over the years the range of services have evolved with opportunities as they have presented themselves, but at our core, it has remained that our success lies in collaboration and partnership with our clients, employees and contractors. We aim to to bring everyone together, aligning our efforts to deliver a quality service with a personal touch. We believe that when all stakeholders share a common goal, remarkable outcomes become achievable.

While the forestry industry has traditionally been seen as a conservative, and slow to change industry, we are here to challenge the status quo. Adapting to change, we like to think we introduce a refreshing level of flexibility to our approach. By embracing new opportunities as they arise, we ensure that our business thrives, and more importantly, our clients reap the benefits.
